Installation instructions from lawn grating manufacturer JBM – JBM S.C.

The JBM lawn grilles have a dimension of 60 x 40 cm, they include lateral fixings to be fastened with a second grille that does not have these fixings. In addition, for stabilisation in the ground, it is recommended to use JBM 19 cm plastic anchors, which are inserted into specially prepared pockets in the JBM gratings. The JBM lawn grid paving with aggregate infill and with an unbound substructure with limited fine fractions, acts as a permeable pavement. Particular attention should be paid to the drainage conditions of a surface laid with a JBM lawn grid.

The height of the soil filling in the lawn grid should be approx. 0.5 cm below the top edge of the grid in order to prevent the roots of the grass from being torn up. When backfilling the lawn grille with aggregate, the walls of the grille should be completely covered. After a period of time when the fill has consolidated, it should be replenished. The surface of the lawn grille may be bounded by a concrete kerb, edging, slats or a row of paving stones, etc. The minimum outside temperature at which it is recommended to install the lawn grid paving is at least 5°C.

The construction product should be used in accordance with the intention, scope and conditions contained in the National Technical Assessment and in the technical and construction footnotes specific to the individual types of structures in the traffic construction industry.

Preparing the substrate before starting work

Mark out the shape of the area to be laid with JBM lawn grids. Remove the top layer of soil and fill in with a mixture of gravel, gravel or dry concrete (the surface must be well permeable); then compact the area with a rammer or surface vibrator. If the area is not sufficiently stable, it is advisable to prepare the area with building or garden fleece.

The construction of the JBM lawn grid pavement should consist of the following layers:

1. A sub-base layer using mechanical stabilisation technology according to PN-S-06102: 1997 or a stone ballast sub-base according to PN-S-96023:1984 and WT-4 2010
2. Compensatory ballast up to a thickness of 0.05 m of sand or sand-gravel ballast with a grain size of D≤4 mm according to PNEN 13242 +A1:2010.
3. A top layer of JBM lawn grids filled with:

  • soil with grass seed sowing, or
  • 4/8 or 8/16 mm aggregate according to EN 13242+A1:2010, or
  • 100% humus

The laying of the JBM lawn grids should be started from the corner part of the investment area – it is important to leave a minimum of 2 cm of expansion joint from the edge. After laying the intended surface, it should be filled with soil or aggregate.
